Bleeding gums when you brush or floss is never normal, but it's extremely common and almost always reversible at home.
What causes it
The most common cause is gingivitis โ the earliest stage of gum disease. Plaque builds up along the gumline, the gums become inflamed, and they bleed at the slightest touch.
The 5-step fix
- Brush twice a day with a soft-bristled brush for two full minutes
- Floss every day
- Use a fluoride toothpaste (not charcoal)
- Rinse with warm salt water for one week
- See a dentist if it's not better in two weeks
